Mother Earth Day in the Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark
The COVID-19 pandemic will restrict Mother Earth Day events to partly closed and partly online programs in our geopark this year.
Origin: Miocene, Carpathian. Geomorphological featuresThe type section of the Egyházasgerge Formation is the exploration of a sand mine south of the settlement, with rich macrofauna. The rock layer forming the cover of the Salgótarján coalfields was formed in the offshore-coastal facies. In some cases, it starts with a basic conglomerate and gravel, then cross-layered chlamysic sands and sandstones are common. Remains of shark teeth are common in the Nagy Valley, from the quarry below Mocsáry-pen, and in the valley between Nagy-Hallgató and Körbérces. |
