The Slovak-Hungarian Novohrad - Nograd UNESCO Global Geopark has two operational centers and a management body based on parity.
The transborder Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark is the first global geopark both in Hungary and Slovakia. It is the first, in its foundation crossborder geopark on Earth.
The Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark is gradually building up and joining the unique Palots land historic traditions, landscapes and community of 64 Hungarian and 28 Slovakian settlements.
The area was admitted as official member of Global Geoparks Network (GGN) in 2010, and became an UNESCO Global Geopark in 2016.
The organization in charge of the geopark management preserves and presents geological, landscape, natural, ecological, archaeological, historical and cultural heritage and integrates all these to form geo-touristic offers, thereby developing the local economy.
