The exhibition place is not far from the city center of Salgótarján, near the road to Ipolytarnóc.
It includes the Baglyas basalt block, which was made a locally protected nature reserve in 1975, to which a 2.5 hectare landscape area is connected. The office of the Bükk National Park Directorate Nógrád Region can also be found in the visitor center building. The 100 m2 indoor showroom provides an insight into the past of the Baglyas-kő: together with historical tables, findings from the prehistoric times and the middle ages, found during archeological research, middle age findings bear witness about human presence of a long period. An archeological research area enriches the items of interest outdoors, where you can see part of the protection structure of the destroyed medieval castle. The short educational trail around the rock presents the geological values of the protected area, and the volcanic processes which created them. On the area of the visitor center there is also a bird rescue station, which provides temporary home for injured protected birds.
The Baglyas-kő visitor center primarily serves educational purposes, it offers environmental educational programs full of colorful experience for kindergarten and school children, providing a possibility for them to explore the natural values of the closer and wider environment. Besides organized groups, individual visitors can also come, the gates are open for everyone. We can provide special guiding and educational programs about nature, with prior registration and appointment.
