The impressive castle hill overlooks the surroundings by roughly 130 m.
It represents an exposed diatreme (feeding channel to the surface maar which hasn’t been preserved). The diatreme hill is formed by basaltic tuffs and breccias pierced by younger basaltic dikes. The radiometric age of the basaltic dike is 2,75 } 0,44 Ma. (Late Pliocene). The locality is valuable for its scientific and landscape studies. The first historic document, mentioning the castle, dates back to 1245. It was a royal castle and seat of an estate. Twice captured by Turks, it was reconstructed in the 17th century and devastated since 18th century.
