Origin

Miocene, Badenian (barrier rock); Ancient remains of the Upper Pleistocene.

Geomorphological features

Well-preserved, irregularly located cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) bones are common in the sandy filling of the Betyár cave. The existence of a cave is a special occurrence on an extremely small calcareous area surrounded mainly by Miocene volcanic formations. As a paleonthological site, after preliminary exploration in 1994, it is in need of static reinforcement and then an paleonthologic excavation.
